Carpet Expo Flags Off at Pragati Maidan, China Marks Presence as Future Buyer

The Governor of Chinese Qinghai Province, Mr. Luo Huining led a big delegation to the meet. (The carpet EPC will participate in a reverse show in the Qinghai near Tibet and Sichuan). The 23rd India Carpet Expo is the largest fair of handmade woolen, silk carpets, rugs and floor-coverings from 17-20 February, 2012 in Hall No. 14 at Pragati Maidan. The show will be followed by a Buyer Seller Meet on 21-22 February, 2012 at Hotel Clarks Amer, Jaipur. 

The council expects 240 overseas buyers from the event. The buyers at the parallel at the Handicraft at Simultaneous Gifts show organised by EPCH (Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts) will also call here. The major components of 132 exhibitors in the meet are from Bhadoha, Mirzapur area in Eastern U.P. The Jaipur area with 30 exhibitors follows next. In all, 214 exhibitors are in the show.

The India Carpet Expo, provides ‘unique pick and choose’ business opportunity to overseas carpet buyers.

The Council is providing complimentary hotel accommodation upto 3 nights (room rent with breakfast) at Delhi. This time CEPC decided to give Special Focus for buyers visiting from LAC, China, Iran and all African Countries for Reimbursement of air fare Upto US $ 1500 for Buyers from LAC and Upto US $ 800 for Buyers from China , Iran and all African Countries.  The Overseas Buyers attending the Buyer Seller Meet at Jaipur, shall be given complimentary hotel accommodation for one night (room rent with breakfast) at Jaipur.

The Indian carpet industry exports claims a sale of $1bn. The product mix is diversified now to include many types of coverings and not just the traditional copies of Persian design. The industry says that 35% of the world market is with them with Iran, and China, vacating the market for India to low price labour backed by entrepreneurship.
